Understanding the NDIS

Helpful guides, answers to common questions, and practical information to help participants and families navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme with confidence.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding and support to people with permanent and significant disability. It is designed to help participants achieve their goals, build independence, and take part in their community.

The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Eligible participants receive an individual plan with funding allocated across different support categories, which can be used to purchase services from registered providers like Noble Care Connect.

If you or a family member are new to the NDIS, this page will help you understand how it works, what to expect, and how Noble Care Connect can support you every step of the way.

Getting started

Step-by-step guides

01

Check your eligibility

To access the NDIS you must be under 65, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent and significant disability that affects your daily life. You can check your eligibility on the NDIS website or call the NDIS on 1800 800 110.

02

Apply to access the NDIS

Submit an Access Request by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or completing the Access Request Form online. You will need supporting evidence from a treating health professional such as a GP, specialist, or allied health provider.

03

Prepare for your planning meeting

Once approved, you will be invited to a planning meeting with an NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC). Think about your goals, what support you currently receive, and what you would like to achieve. You can bring a support person or advocate.

04

Receive your NDIS plan

After your planning meeting, you will receive your NDIS plan. It will outline your goals and the funding allocated across support categories. Review it carefully — if you feel it does not reflect your needs, you can request a review.

05

Choose your supports and providers

With your plan in place, you can choose which supports to use and which providers to engage. You are in control — you can choose Noble Care Connect for any of our services, and you can change providers at any time.

06

Review and update your plan

NDIS plans are typically reviewed annually. Use your review to reflect on what is working, what has changed, and what new goals you want to pursue. Your support team at Noble Care Connect can help you prepare for your review.
